We also offer some of the best Largemouth Bass fishing in western Oregon.  Renowned, world-class coastal lakes like Tenmile lake and Siltcoos lake as well as Willamette Valley reservoirs like Dorena and Cottage Grove offer some of the best largemouth bass fishing.

Expert guide, Dean Finnerty, currently uses many different tried and proven fly rod techniques to get his clients into fish consistently. Dean and our guides will teach you what tactics, fly patterns and techniques that will work the best on any given day for the species you're after.

Dean has been a fly fishing instructor for more than 20 years and has taught fly-casting and presentation to both professional and beginning anglers.

We specialize in catch and release on most of our Steelhead, Trout and Smallmouth Bass trips. We recognize that many people enjoy catching fish for the table, but also understand that if our fishing resources are to last into the future, then now is the time to embrace conservation efforts for all the species we fish for. We recommend that our clients bring video camera's or digital cameras on their adventures to capture some of the scenes of the day. It is not uncommon for us to see Bald Eagles, Osprey, Seal/Sea Lion, Gray Whales, ducks, geese, deer, elk, bear and numerous other species of wildlife while on most of the rivers and bays that we fish. Dean can also make arrangements to have your trophy mounted by some of the top taxidermists around or have your fish "air shipped" anywhere in the world.

Our Goal at Dean Finnerty Guides and Outfitters is to give you the best guided fishing trip in the state of Oregon, one that you will cherish the memories of, for years to come.

"Hey Dean, just wanted to say thanks again for the time we spent on the N. Umpqua! I had a blast, it was awesome to raise fish on the dry, and your two handed instruction was like gold! I am totally rejuvenated on the North once again thanks to you!!! Having done a little guiding myself, I can say you have it down and are one of the best I've ever been with! Can't wait to do it again! -Brad"

Winter Steelhead, Duck and Goose Hunts

For up to the minute information and fishing or hunting reports - check out my daily blog at  It will feature friends, family and clients and our adventures on the water and in the field.  I'll post tips and tons of pics.  I hope you'll visit often and let me know what you like and don't like.

Our winter steelhead season is in full swing now. Winter steelhead began entering the lower Umpqua around Thanksgiving. With the recent cold weather, northern birds have come down and we've had some tremendous bird hunts over the past several weeks. The coastal streams have been receiving more winter fish it seems, and they always clear much faster after some of the big winter storms we've had this year.

I don't plan on doing any sportsmen shows this season, but I do have some articles coming out soon in Salmon and Steelhead Journal.  I also appear in Rob Crandell's new video on winter steelhead fly fishing techniques.  I rencently joined the "Ambassador" programs with AQUAZ and Temple Fork Outfitters.  I've been using AQUAZ waders and jackets for several years and I'm excited about working with this great company!  I've also been fishing the TFO rods for many years and look forward to promoting these great rods in the coming year!
